No one knows for sure what challenges lie in the path of Tony Cingrani's career as a pitcher, but it…
Cingrani Makes AA Debut
Offensively the Wahoos were led by leadoff hitter Ryan LaMarre who went 3-4 with two runs scored. Second hitter Didi Gregorius went 2-5 and drove in two. Brodie Greene and David Vidal also added two hits each. After starting slowly at AA after his promotion from Bakersfield, Vidal is now 10-33 over his last nine games. Pensacola scored the first runs of the game in the fifth inning on four consecutive singles which included a safe hit bunt by Cingrani. LaMarre and Gregorius drove in one each on a single and ground ball respectively.
Jacksonville took the lead on a two-out rally in the seventh after Cingrani left the game with a 2-0 lead and two runners on base. Three runs then scored off of Drew Hayes who allowed three singles before ending the inning. The Wahoos tied it in the bottom of that inning on a LaMarre single and stolen base before an RBI hit by Gregorius.
Penascola fell behind by two in the top of the ninth and almost tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two-out rally of their own. LaMarre and Gregorius both singled and Greene drove in a run and cut the lead to one. Joel Guzman then grounded out to end the game.
Other roster news: Erik Miller was also assigned to Pensacola out of extended spring training. He replaced Joseph in the ninth and struck out the only batter he faced to end the inning.
Other News from the Farm:
Jeff Francis threw a shutout in a 7-0 win by Louisville over visiting Durham. It was the first win in three games for the Bats and the teams will play a series finale on Monday. Joey Gathright had three hits and drove in three. He's now hitting .382 in nine games since the Reds acquired him out of an independent league. Cody Puckett added two hits and scored twice.
Bakersfield allowed a go-ahead run in the eighth before losing to Modesto 5-4 at Sam Lynn Field. They took a 2-1 lead in the bottom on the second on a two run homer by Niko Vasquez. They added two more the next inning on Devin Lohman's seventh home run. Billy Hamilton went 2-5 and was the only Blaze player with a multi-hit game. On the mound Andrew Brackman made his first start since a stint on the DL that took him out of action at Louisville. He was lifted in the fifth and charged with four runs. Justice French allowed one run in three innings of relief and took the loss.
Billy Hamilton Theft Watch:
Hamilton led off the third with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. He reached base again on a double in the seventh and advanced to third on a passed ball. He now has 62 steals in 53 games.
Dayton took a 5-2 lead in their game at Bowling Green and held on for a 5-4 win. Steve Selsky went 2-4 with a walk and a triple to raise his average to .289. Daniel Tuttle made his first start since suffering a strained calf in mid-May and shut out the Hot Rods by pitching four innings of one-hit ball. He left the game before any runs were scored and reliever Dan Jenson picked up the win. Carlos Contreras left two runners on base while pitching a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.
