Reds Avoid Sweep

After losing an early lead and their series-opening game at St. Louis on Monday and following it up with a lackluster performance on Tuesday the Reds looked to be headed toward getting swept against the division leaders. They avoided that in a big way on Wednesday by jumping on the Cardinals early and cruising to a shutout win.

Whether it was a lineup change, or venting frustration from the previous two games, or something else, Cincinnati came ready to play Thursday at St. Louis. They jumped on the Cardinals for six runs in the first inning. Of course only two days earlier they lost after taking a four-run first inning lead, but Jay Bruce minimized the chances of that happening again when he popped a three-run homer...
