2015/2016 MLB Draft Rankings (May 2014): 2015 College, 2016 College & 2015-16 High School

The draft is in under and month and the week after that, the summer showcase season gets started. I've been scouting and writing about this class for over a year (here's my last list of this group) and looking over my 2014 draft previews from this time last year show that many of the top players emerge a full year in advance. As I said with the 2015 college list it's entirely too early to peg the strengths of the class, but there are already five players in this prep class that have emerged as elite and a handful more already proved themselves on last summer's showcase circuit.

Daz Cameron has the most hype in this class, but Brendan Rodgers has covered that small gap from the last list and taken the top spot as the spring stats (Cameron: .323, 4 HR, 9 SB and Rodgers: .397. 8 HR, 6 SB) back up the notes scouts have passed along that saw each this spring. The two helium guys to watch are Kyle Tucker and Justin Hooper, with the 6'4 Tucker (.425, 9 HR, 5 SB) drawing raves from scouts for his athleticism and advanced swing while Hooper is a 6'6 lefty that's been into the mid-90's this spring.

This 2016 list has a mix of talents. Obviously, standing out this early is helped by being older than your peers; Austin Bergner, Greg Veliz, Blake Rutherford, T.J. Collett, Chris Machamer and Seth Beer would all fit in the 2015 class better by age and Beer is old enough (19.7 on 2016 draft day) that he could fit in the 2014 class.

The top 6-7 would all fit comfortably in the above list, so true 2016's by age Anthony Molina, Cole Ragans, Drake Fellows and Jeff Belge are the top age-adjusted talents here. Bergner and Molina have separated themselves from the pack a good bit and would both be among the top few pitchers in the 2015 list if they reclassified. There are rumors some of the above-mentioned older players may reclassify soon, so scouts can see them over a full summer/fall season.

Here's a look at Molina in action last October; he was up to 93 in this outing and has hit 96 mph this spring.
